Latest Site News

I managed to get the latest project done ahead of schedule. The new
expanded track stats are now posted. Each track now has a link to driver
by driver statistics. These give the full driver rankings at each
track. You can see an example here.
The next phase of this project will be up as I said before in about a month or
two. I'm looking forward to getting that posted, it will be another big
add-on to the site.

Nothing huge, just a progress report. The project I mentioned last month
is coming along smoothly. I'm guessing it will be online sometime around
January 7-10, at least the first phase of it. The next phase will probably
take another 1-2 months. In the meantime the site is getting constantly
updated with smaller information. I'll come across a new birth date here,
a full name there, find a typo to correct, etc. So even though you won't
see anything big for several months at a time, the work never really stops!

I'm finished! All of the 2004 data is now online. Now that that's
done I'm going to get back to the next large project I've been working on.
That should be complete sometime in early January.

The updates are flying right along. Barring
any surprises all of the 2004 data should be online Wednesday or Thursday.
(11/8) The first batch of 2004 updates are now
online. Updating all of the records is going quicker than I expected, I
should have everything online by the end of the week. (11/3) Nothing actually updated today, but there will be
soon. With the season ending this weekend, the 2004 data will start to
come online. The updates will start to appear as soon as Monday. It
will take some time to get everything up, there's a lot of data from the season
and a lot of pages to be updated. Below is a checklist of all the items to
be updated, items will be crossed off here as they are put on the site.

A new section has been added to the site, dealing with non-championship race
data. Also the front page has been changed around a little to make
everything a little easier to get to.

Some of the linking has now been finished. The track pages are much more
useful, you'll be able to link to all of the races and winning drivers from
those pages. There are also quick links at the bottom of every page
now. The next area to see improved linking will be the season pages. That
won't be finished soon however for a number of reasons: a) It's a really big
job, b) The 2004 season is coming to a close, and putting in this year's data
will take priority over anything else and c) There are just more interesting
things I want to get to. You'll probably see improved linking pop up a
season or two at a time here and there instead of one big update. It will
be done, it'll just take some time.

A few days ago I found an error which was keeping some people from being able to
view certain sections of the site, including the driver listing, which is the
biggest part. That has been corrected, so there shouldn't be anything
keeping people out. Now starts the next project, which I've been putting
off since it's going to be boring and mundane, increasing the linking between
pages. It'll be easier to move between sections and access information
once that is complete.

This Day in History is now posted. You can find it in the Through
the Years section. Also, you may notice the race results columns in the
individual driver pages may not line up correctly once in a while. Just
refresh the page and they will look fine, it's just some sort of glitch.

I told you that wouldn't take long. The tables for the tracks, records and
individual seasons should look better now. There may still be a minor
issue with one of the columns on the season pages depending on what browser
you're using. Nothing major, just how the numbers are aligned. Also
one page was added to the records section detailing some other events not
falling in the main scope of the site but worth mentioning nonetheless.
Now that some of this mundane technical stuff is out of the way it's time to
start on the start project of interest, the "This Day in History"
section.

All links have now been checked, and broken links have been fixed.
Also, some small typos found along the way have been fixed. Next up is to
work on formatting some of the tables so they'll look better. That
shouldn't be too difficult, and will be finished within the next few days.

Well, right now everything's new! Welcome to the grand opening of
ChampCarStats.com. As of July 4, 2004, we're now open! You may
notice some glitches here and there as I'm in the process of getting everything
up and running, but everything should be sorted out real soon. There seem
to be a few minor formatting issues in viewing with Microsoft Internet
Explorer. Nothing major however. They don't seem to be as big a
problem with Mozilla Firefox, don't know about other browsers yet. Look for
news about site updates and new features in this space. What you see here
is not a finished product, but merely a beginning. I plan on doing even
more detailed driver statistics, such as results by track, chassis and engine in
the future, as well as a This Day in History section. I also have a couple of interactive surprises planned to get
you involved, make sure to keep an eye out for those. And I'm always
interested to hear your opinions on what you like, don't like, and would like to
see added to the site. Feel free to drop me an e-mail and let me
