The non-championship race section has some more info added.  Thanks to one of the site's readers, Gerrit Stevens, for providing some help there.  The next project to be tackled is an adjustment of the data for 1920.  This is the year with the oddball disputed championship, where two different versions have been used over the years.  I believe there is enough evidence now to show that the original five race season, with Gaston Chevrolet as champion, is the true result,  as opposed to the 10 race season where Tommy Milton was named champ.  As a result, the five extra events from 1920 will now be considered non-championship events, and all data will be adjusted to reflect this change.  If you're interested you can follow the debate and the evidence displayed here.

The stats by country section now has a new addition.  There is a link on each country's page leading to a table of national record holders.  It's basically a compilation of the blue numbers you see in the driver pages.  Going through and getting the numbers together in one place like that also let me correct a number of errors that had crept into the driver pages regarding national records.

Updated 11/28/2005
Another addition to the Record Book section.  The Other Champions link now has a section on the history of the Vanderbilt Cup.

Updated 11/23/2005
Small addition to the Record Book section today.  I've added two more sets of overall rankings.  One is for purely Champ Car results.  It removes the NASCAR Speedway Division, USAC Gold Crown, 1905 AAA Championship and IRL numbers and leaves only actual official Champ Car races.  The other is for modern era Champ Car results (1979-present).  It's basically a compilation of CART and CCWS numbers, since the media has a habit of throwing those statistics together.  They're in the Full Rankings column, under the links Strictly Champ Car and Modern Era Champ Car.

All done!  All 2005 data is now posted.  With that now finished, it means that for the first time in years I don't have any major project in the works.  I've got a couple of smaller things I'm working on that will be added to the site in the next month or so, but as of now there are no more major sections to be added.  (11/14) More and more pages are up.  The remainder of the 2005 data should be online within the next couple of days.  (11/11) A note on the driver pages, which went up today.  The overall and national records (the red and blue numbers) on those pages are not yet updated.  I won't have that done until I have the records section done.  That should be finished within the next week.  All other info, including the 2005 stats, on the driver pages is accurate and up to date.  (11/9) A few more sections have been updated today.  (11/6) With the season ending this weekend, the 2005 data will start to come online.  The updates will start to appear as soon as Sunday night.  It will take some time to get everything up, there's a lot of data from the season and a lot of pages to be updated.  Below is a checklist of all the items to be updated, items will be crossed off here as they are put on the site.

It took a while, but it's finally finished.  The new, revamped chassis and engine section is now online.

Updated 9/27/2005
You'll notice in the chassis & engine section that the "Years Active" column has been removed.  I'm in the process of revamping this section, and in going through things I noticed a number of errors in that column for the chassis manufacturers.  Some made no sense at all, such as a chassis that ran in 1911 being listed as running in 1983.  Since the section is being redone anyway, I've pulled that column for the time being.  Not sure how the errors crept in, but they'll be corrected when the revamped data goes online.

Updated 9/22/2005
The non-championship race section has gone through a big update.  First, results for races at Milwaukee (1948), Williams Grove (1949) and Arlington (1949 & 1950) are now online.  Thanks to Dave Read for providing these results.  A pair of preliminary events run at Indianapolis before the points paying fall race in 1916 have been added.  And a pair of races have been "downgraded" to non-championship status.  Sounds odd, I know.  First is one of the Beverly Hills events from 1920.  1920 is a bit of a garble anyway, with some races counting or not counting depending on which version of the 1920 season you accept, the 5 race or the 11 race version.  This is one of the extra races making up the 11 race version.  Odd thing is, when the series was revised to 11 races, points still weren't awarded for this event.  Probably an oversight (and a good example of why results shouldn't be tinkered with years afterward).  Since the race didn't award points for either version of the 1920 championship, it simply didn't make sense to include it with the full points paying races.  The other one, the second San Carlos event from 1922, is much more cut and dried.  It's inclusion has always been suspect, and I've seen enough sources not include the event in the 1922 standings that I'm fully satisfied it's purely a non-points event.

Points standings for the 1953 NASCAR Speedway Division are now posted.  Thanks to Geoff Untiedt for providing the info.

Updated 5/20/2005
The extended driver pages have been updated with chassis and engine stats for all drivers with a last name starting with C.  Also here's a progress report on some other ongoing projects.  The task of linking drivers off the season pages, which got shoved to the background for awhile, is seeing some work again.  1979-2004 is now finished.  A number of biographical updates have been and are being added.  And a slew of non-qualifiers have been discovered.  DNQ info seems to be spotty at best, sometimes the non-qualifiers were reported in recaps or race stories, sometimes they weren't, so new stuff pops up from time to time.  In the past 3 months or so I've uncovered around 25 non-qualifiers not previously listed.  Add in the drivers from the 1905 series recently added to the site and the rookies from this season and the roster of drivers has grown by about 50 in the past few months.  For the record the count currently stands at 2077.

Updated 5/7/2005
The extended driver pages have been updated with chassis and engine stats for all drivers with a last name starting with B.

Updated 4/23/2005
The extended driver pages have been updated with chassis and engine stats for all drivers with a last name starting with A.  Also, I've posted this in the Page Keys section but I'll repost it here to help explain one part of the tables:

In the chassis and engine sections of the extended driver stats pages there is a situation similar to the main page where the DNS/Q totals may not add up the same.  This is because there are instances where a driver has appeared at a race with two or more different chassis or engines.  Here is an example:

-- 7/4/1951 Darlington PO AAA 59 Granatelli Bardahl Kurtis 3000 Offy -- -- -- DNS, too slow
--/ 7/4/1951 Darlington PO AAA 63 Ray Brady Schroeder Offy -- -- -- Did not qualify

In this case, the driver missed the field in both a Kurtis and a Schroeder chassis.  Each chassis will be assigned a DNS/Q in the extended stats, so it will add up to two misses on that table, even though it was only one actual DNS/Q.  In the engine table Offy has one DNS/Q assigned to it, since it doesn't make sense to double count the same miss.  Here's another example:

175 4/27/2002 Motegi PO CART 26 KOOL Lola Honda 3 19 84 Mechanical
--/ 4/27/2002 Motegi PO CART 26 KOOL Reynard Honda -- -- -- Did not qualify

In this situation, Reynard is assigned a DNS/Q, even though the driver did start the race, because he did not make the field in the Reynard.  Honda does not receive a DNS/Q for that miss because the driver did start the race in another Honda powered entry.

Updated 4/16/2005
Chassis and driver breakdowns have been completed and added to the extended driver stats pages for all active drivers, except of course new drivers for 2005 since they have no race data.  I'll probably put the updated pages online in small groups instead of waiting for one big update at the end just to get the information out there as quickly as possible.

Updated 4/12/2005
Another new item up today, I've added in the 1905 AAA National Championship data.  I debated a bit as to whether I should include it, since technically it's not Champ Car.  However it can be considered a direct predecessor to the series, since Champ Car started out as the AAA National Championship, or at least the Championship division in the early years when they didn't actually assign points and determine a champion.  Plus I've already set precedent for including series that are closely related to Champ Car such as the NASCAR Speedway Division, the USAC Gold Crown dirt races and the IRL.  So I've put it in.  Also there are a batch of new DNQs added in that I've recently turned up.  Reporting on non-qualifiers has always been a bit ragged, sometimes you get a full listing and sometimes there's no mention, so the more I dig the more that keeps popping up.

Updated 4/8/2005
There is some new information posted in the non-championship section.  I've come across a bundle of non-points races from 1918-1941.  Unfortunately all I have for now are race winners, getting full results will be difficult.

Updated 4/5/2005
Big update, finally finished the project I have been working on.  On each driver page you'll now see a link that says "Extended driver stats".  When you click it, you'll see results broken down track by track for every driver.  You'll be able to see how your favorite driver performed at each track he appeared at.  Once I got the driver by driver results done for each track it was just a matter of reformatting the data to use for drivers.  You'll also see two separate headings underneath for chassis and engine.  That's the next big project.  I'll be doing chassis and engine breakdowns for each driver.  After that is done I'll then take the data and do a driver by driver breakdown for each chassis and each engine.  The chassis and engine section is really lagging behind the others as far as quality of data, I want to get that caught up.  This won't be finished anytime soon, after all it took months to do the track data, but it's going to be the main project for now.

Also, if you decide to sponsor a driver page, you will now receive both the regular stats page and the extended stats page.  That's 2 pages for the price of 1!

Updated 3/13/2005
Big update posted today.  A lot of the information for 1982, both the CART and USAC seasons, has been updated.  The dirt races, while not complete, are covered much better than previously.  There's mostly DNQ information added for the other races in 1982.  Also was able to add biographical details for a whole batch of drivers.

Updated 3/2/2005
Nothing big here, just a progress report.  I'm a little behind on the current project I thought would be posted by now.  Partly it's because I've had to do some reformatting work, partly because I've just been a little short on time.  It will be up later this month.

Updated 1/20/2005
I've just finished a big update regarding the 1982-83 USAC Gold Crown season.  I've finally found the official standings, and have been able to correct the information that was previously posted here.  All of the data throughout the web site has been corrected and updated.  Also, I've found that the concept of running dirt car races as part of the USAC National Championship continued for at least another year.  There was one dirt race in 1983 that counted towards the 1983-84 Gold Crown.  So now I'm trying to find out just how long they kept doing that.  I solve one mystery and stumble into another!  The 1983-84 Gold Crown info has now also been added to the site.

Updated 1/3/2005
Biographical details have been updated for a good number of drivers today.  Special thanks to one of the site's readers, Simmo Iskül, for his help on this one.

Updated 12/30/2004
I managed to get the latest project done ahead of schedule.  The new expanded track stats are now posted.  Each track now has a link to driver by driver statistics.  These give the full driver rankings at each track.  You can see an example here.  The next phase of this project will be up as I said before in about a month or two.  I'm looking forward to getting that posted, it will be another big add-on to the site.
